About VilVena

VilVena began with a simple frustration: most home design advice either assumes an unlimited budget or reads like it was written for someone else's house. We wanted a place for people who live in real homes — small apartments, rented rooms, family houses with scuffed floors and hand-me-down furniture — and who still want those homes to feel beautiful, calm, and genuinely theirs. That is the blog we set out to build, and it is the blog we still write every day.

VilVena is run by Mirna Lestari, the founder and editor. Mirna writes the articles, plans the rooms, tests the ideas, and answers the mail. There is no large team behind the site and no outside agency writing on our behalf. When you read an article here, you are reading the work of one person who has spent years rearranging her own rooms, learning from the mistakes, and keeping notes on what actually works when money and space are limited.

What We Cover

We write about home design room by room, because that is how people actually change their homes — one living room, one kitchen, one bedroom at a time. Our articles cover living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, home offices, outdoor spaces, lighting, and decor, with a special focus on small spaces and tight budgets. We write about layouts that make a room feel bigger, lighting that makes it feel warmer, storage that keeps it calm, and colours and materials that will still look good in five years.

We care as much about the practical details as the pretty pictures. That means real measurements for furniture and walkways, colour temperatures for bulbs, honest price ranges for the things we recommend, and the trade-offs nobody mentions — what stains, what scratches, what needs sealing every year, and what looks good in a showroom but fails in a house with children or pets.

How Our Articles Are Written

Every article starts with a real decorating problem, usually one we have faced ourselves. We plan the layout on paper before we fall in love with a finish, we measure twice, and we check the prices and product details before we write them down. When we recommend a material, a bulb, or a layout, it is because we have tried it, priced it, or lived with something very much like it — not because a catalogue told us to.

We do not copy other people's articles, and we do not publish lists we have not thought through. Each guide is written from scratch for the people who will actually use it, with comparisons, common mistakes, and maintenance advice included, because a room that looks good on day one and falls apart by month six is not a success. If an idea has a drawback, we say so. If a luxury option is not worth the money for most readers, we say that too, and we suggest the cheaper alternative that gets most of the way there.

Who VilVena Is For

VilVena is for homeowners, renters, and do-it-yourself renovators who want their homes to feel better without spending a fortune or hiring a designer. It is for the renter who cannot paint the walls but can change the lighting, the new homeowner facing an empty room and a long list, and the person who has lived in the same house for twenty years and is ready to make it feel new again.

You do not need design training to use this blog, and you do not need a large budget. Most of our ideas cost little, and many cost nothing at all — moving a lamp, clearing a surface, swapping a cushion, hanging a curtain higher. The expensive ideas are always marked as such, with the budget version beside them, so you can choose what fits your life.

What You Can Expect From Us

We publish new guides regularly, and we keep the older ones useful by checking prices and advice as things change. We answer reader mail, and many of our best articles started as a question from someone who wrote in. We do not run paid reviews, and we do not recommend products we would not use in our own homes.

If you are new here, start with the room that bothers you most and pick one small change from the guide. Try it this weekend, live with it for a week, and see how the room feels. That is how good homes are made — one honest decision at a time. Welcome to VilVena. We are glad you are here.
